History

St Catherine's is the oldest independent Anglican girls' school in Australia, founded in 1856 by Jane Sophia Barker, the wife of Bishop Frederick Barker, to provide an education for the daughters of clergy (it was also known as the Clergy Daughters' School). Mrs Barker decided to call the school St Catherine's after Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of scholars.

The School Archives were established in 1988.
