Perth Observatory
The observatory opened in 1896 in West Perth and in 1966 moved to Bickley, Perth. It was operated by the State Government until 2015 when its management was passed to the Perth Observatory Volunteer Group to run it as a astronomical outreach, education and heritage conservation facility.
The colony's earliest scientific institution, the observatory has been involved in Australian and international astronomical collaborations up until 2015.
Bickley is a suburb located within the City of Kalamunda, in Perth.
The Perth Observatory Volunteer Group has a formal agreement with the Western Australian Government Department of Conservation, Biodiversity and Attractions.
The Perth Observatory Volunteer Group is a not-for-profit body incorporated in Western Australia with a constitution setting out its objectives and rules. The organisation is run by a Management Committee of ten.
