History

Loreto Toorak is an independent Catholic school for girls from Preparatory through to Year 12. The school is one of many around the world directed by the Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary (IBVM), also known as the Loreto Sisters.

The Institute had spread rapidly throughout mainland Australia from 1875, when Catholic primary and secondary schools were established in Ballarat. In 1924, Loreto Toorak was established. It is one of seven Loreto Schools in Australia.

The Loreto Toorak Heritage Collection documents the tradition and history of the School and serves as its long-term memory. The collection encourages quality planning and decision-making by providing access to past experience, expertise and knowledge, as well as providing a historical perspective.
