The University maintains a collection of archival material that documents the history of the university and its predecessor institutions.
This information is kept permanently by the university and, after a period of time, may be accessed by the public, local researchers and others.
The Queensland Institute of Technology (Capricornia) (QITC) was founded in Rockhampton in 1967 and became the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education (CIAE) in 1971. The CIAE continued to expand with the establishment of campuses in Gladstone in 1978, in Mackay in 1987, in Bundaberg in 1988 and in Emerald in 1989. The CIAE’s continued growth led to it being renamed the University College of Central Queensland. It achieved full university status in 1992, being renamed the Central Queensland University in 1994. Other campuses were opened and in 2008, the university was rebranded as CQUniversity Australia. In 2014 CQUniversity and CQ TAFE merged.
