Historique

Established to house the history of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, the archive contains materials, records and artefacts relevant to more than 150 years of the Catholic Church in Queensland.
The Diocese of Brisbane started with the colony of Queensland in 1859. It then covered the whole of Queensland, with the first bishop being James Quinn. Bishop Quinn died in 1881 and was succeeded by Robert Dunne who became the first Archbishop of Brisbane in 1887. Northern and Central Queensland were excised from the Diocese.
