The W L Crowther Library was developed by Dr W E L H (later Sir William) Crowther and presented by him to the State Library of Tasmania in the period 1964 to1981.

Officer in charge: Manager, State Library and Archive Services

Dr Crowther's collecting ranged across all aspects of Tasmanian history and culture. Highlights include:

• Crowther family business, medical, personal papers, c1825-1980
• Sir William Crowther World War I diaries and photographs, 1914-1919
• Logs of Tasmanian whaling and other vessels, c1813-1910
• Derwent Bank/Charles Swanston: business records, c1828-1850
• Dr Edward Swarbreck Hall: anatomical drawings, c1850.
