The University of New England was established in 1954. The University of New England and Regional Archives (UNERA), located in the Heritage Centre was established in 1957 as a repository for both University and regional records.
The Archives and NSW State Records work to ensure the preservation within the region of records created by bodies such as the Department of Lands, the NSW Police and the courts. In addition, the Archive has a growing archive of private papers, many relating to local pastoral families and commercial businesses.
