The Uniting Church came into being on 22 June 1977, after three denominations - the Congregational Union in Australia, the Methodist Church of Australasia, and the Presbyterian Church of Australia - joined together.

The Assembly is the national council of the Uniting Church in Australia headed by the President of the Uniting Church, with a General Secretary as Chief Executive Officer. It has responsibility in matters of doctrine, worship, government and discipline which sets national policy and promotes the Church's mission in the world.

Uniting Church Assembly Archives, is the repository for records of the Uniting Church in Australia - National Assembly, its agencies and working groups and its antecedent denominations: the Congregational Union of Australia, The Methodist Church of Australasia and some parts of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.

The Collection includes the papers regarding Church Union, minutes of the Assemblies of the Uniting Church in Australia, the Assembly Standing Committee, the agencies including UnitingWorld, UnitingCare, Frontier Services, records of missionary activities (including antecedent mission organisations), church publications and photos.
