The Rockingham District Historical Society was formed in 1969. One of the aims of the society is to maintain the Rockingham museum and local history library.
The Rockingham Museum was first opened in 1974. It is currently housed in an Art Deco building, the former Rockingham Road Board Building built in 1946/47. It was extended in 1988 to join the library building which become part of the museum building in 1999.
The local history library covers Rockingham and state history. It can be accessed by members of the public for research purposes.
