Historique

Rare Books and Special Collections includes early printed books from Europe, Australia, America, and Asia. We also collect examples of fine printing and binding; modern limited editions; science fiction; detective fiction; collections of personal papers, documents, and literary manuscripts; publications from East Asia.

Included in our holdings are pre-2013 University of Sydney higher degree theses and University of Sydney publications. There are over 200 000 items in our collections.

The Archive of Australian Judaica contains source materials relating to Australian Jewish life, from the origins of Jewish communities in Australia up to the present day. https://judaica.library.sydney.edu.au/

The University Library’s East Asian Collection comprises material published in Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages. The rare, string-bound books and expensive art collections are located at Rare Books & Special Collections.
