Northern Territory Library
The State Reference Library was opened on 10 November 1980 in Cavenagh Street and was known as the Northern Territory Library Service.
In 1991 the State Reference Library became the State Library of the Northern Territory.
Collecting work expanded to include community content in 1993.
The State and Parliamentary Libraries were combined and the service relocated to the new Parliament House State Square complex in January 1995.
After a restructure in 1997, the joint-use service from Parliament House was renamed Northern Territory Library.

The Northern Territory Library collects the documentary heritage of the Northern Territory. The Library collects all published materials including books, serials, newspapers, maps and audiovisual materials.
The Library also collects unpublished materials including manuscripts, photographs, audiovisual materials.
