Historia

The Grainger Museum - the only purpose-built autobiographical museum in Australia - is home to a wonderful collection of art, photographs, costumes, music scores and instruments acquired by Percy Grainger, an icon of twentieth century Australian musical culture.

The Museum is on the University of Melbourne's Parkville campus in Melbourne, Victoria.

The Museum was established by Percy Grainger in conjunction with the University of Melbourne, with the University providing the site and ongoing management and Percy providing the building and some funding.

The Museum forms part of the Special Collections and Grainger Museum unit within University Services.

The Museum does not actively collect however, in rare circumstances, material may be purchased or received as donation.

Edificios

The Museum faces Royal Parade, Parkville. There is an additional store in Brunswick and staff offices are at the Baillieu Library at the University of Melbourne. Public access is only via the Museum on Royal Parade or via the Reading Room, level 3 of the Baillieu Library.

Fondos

The archives are the collected papers of Percy Grainger. They relate both to Percy Grainger and were collected by him about others. There are also several smaller collections acquired later by the Museum and consistent with the Museum's objectives.

The Museum is open 12 noon to 4 pm every day except Saturdays, public and University holidays.

The archives can be ordered from the Reading Room website http://library.unimelb.edu.au/readingroom where they will made available for use.

Access to the Museum is free.
Access to the archival collection is via the Reading Room (see http://library.unimelb.edu.au/readingroom ) and is also without charge.
Researchers using the archival collection will be required to register and order material via our online ordering system (https://aeon.unimelb.edu.au/).

The Museum does not provide a research service. Where detailed research is required, researchers can order material and view these in the Reading Room or engage a private records agent/researcher to undertake the work on their behalf.

The Museum does not provide a general copying service. Where digitising items requested by researchers is in the interest of the collection, these may be approved for copying. Fees will apply.
