History

Geelong Grammar School is an independent Anglican co-educational boarding and day school catering for students from early learning centre through to senior years. The school's main campus is located in Corio on the northern outskirts of Geelong, Victoria.

Geelong Grammar School opened as a private Anglican venture in temporary premises at Villamanta Street, Geelong, about the beginning of October 1855, probably with fourteen boys on the roll. In 1857 the school became a "public school" by virtue of Government grant. For further information on the school's history, see https://www.ggs.vic.edu.au/school/our-school/our-history/timeline/Timeline

The Geelong Grammar Archives collection reflects and documents over 150 years of school life. The collections consist of images and memorabilia for all five campuses. The Schools of Clyde and The Hermitage Church of England Girls' Grammar School are also located onsite at Corio and in the purpose built archives repository. Part of the Archives was formerly located at Geelong Grammar School's Timbertop campus.
