Geschiedenis

The Society was formed in 1990 to preserve Bridgetown's unique history, and is the custodian of photographs and ephemera relating to Bridgetown and surrounding areas.

Geografische en culturele context

Bridgetown is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, approximately 270 kilometres (168 mi) south of Perth on the Blackwood River. It is one of eight heritage listed towns in Western Australia and, as such, it is important to preserve the history of the town and its people.

Mandaat/bronnen van bevoegdheid

The Society's objectives are:

  • To encourage the study and writing of Bridgetown's history.
  • To collect, classify and preserve Bridgetown's records.
  • To share information amongst the members by readings, discussions, lectures and exhibitions of historical material.
  • To promote public support of the preservation of historical relics and recognition of notable anniversaries.
  • To establish and maintain a museum in Bridgetown.
  • To publish articles/selected records/publications approved by the Society.
  • To fund, subsidise or contribute to any institution, scholarship or prize, which meets these objectives.

Organisatie structuur

Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and four ordinary committee members. All are volunteers with no salaried staff.

Records management and collecting policies

Records and photographs are being digitised onto MOSAiC software. All donations are accessioned and will be available through MOSAiC once digitised.

Open Wednesday and Friday 9am-3pm; Saturday 10am-1pm. (Check website for any changes.) Email enquiries anytime.

Raadpleegvoorwaarden en -eisen

Any person can enquire. Photos and ephemera are not available to borrow, but can be viewed for research purposes with a Society member present. However, MOSAiC will permit state-wide access and eventually nationally.
