The State's leading botanical reference source, the Library at the Botanic Gardens of South Australia, contains more than 40,000 items including books, journals, reprints, microfiche, photographs, maps, plans, letters, memorabilia and other archive material. During the Library's 150 year history, material has been acquired by gift, purchase and exchange.
The Library supports the information requirements of staff of the Botanic Gardens of South Australia and State Herbarium of South Australia. People from outside the organisation, such as scientists, students, historians, researchers and the general public who have a bona fide need to use the Library's resources may have access by appointment.

Staff records, photographs of the Gardens, records of purchases, accessions and biographical information of historical importance.

Botanic Gardens:
Access by appointment.
Approval via email or phone. Advance notice of visit required and reasons for access.
Reference assistance available in person and limited assistance by mail.
