Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives Inc, Melbourne
The Australian Lesbian and Gay Archives was established in 1978 at the Fourth National Homosexual Conference.
The Archives' focus is Australia, however, we hold significant international holdings, in particular from the United States of America, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Indonesia.
The Archives is a volunteer-run community-based incorporated association, managed by a Committee.
The Archives collects and preserves material documenting the lives of Australian lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, brotherboy and sister girl people. The collection focuses on Australasia but has notable international holdings.
The Archives' holdings extend over 500 shelf metres, and include over 250 archival collections. In addition to archival collections, the Archives also maintains extensive collections of periodicals, photographs, books, posters, oral history and audio recordings, ephemera, newspaper clippings, audio-visual, artwork, badges, t-shirts and miscellaneous textiles, costumes, banners and objects.
Further information on holdings is provided on the Archives' website (http://alga.org.au/), and the following websites: https://issuu.com/australianlesbianandgayarchives https://www.librarything.com/profile/ALGA
