- Use of archives is by appointment only
- Access
- Facilities are available to adults under normal circumstances. Information searching or historical researching should be for a serious purpose. Proof of identity may be required. Purpose of Research must be supplied in writing (e.g. Supervisor's letter). Researchers are required to agree with the terms of the Statement of Use which will be signed before beginning research and a copy of which will be retained by the Archives. Some records are restricted to users with specific authorisation.

- Sydney Archdiocesan Archives is a Church historical archives [Canon 491.2] which preserves the unique and spontaneous documentation produced by persons and events, cultivates the memory of the life of the local Church and manifests the sense of Tradition of the Church. (Pontifical Letter on Church Archives, No 1.1). The role of the Sydney Archdiocesan Archives is, consistent with the provisions of the Code of Canon Law, relating to the keeping and use of diocesan archives, to make provision for the identification, appraisal, acquisition, accessioning, accommodation, arrangement and description, exhibition, display, permanent preservation and use of the archives of the Archdiocese of Sydney.
